Thanks gorgeous. We have received your request.

Uh oh. We'll take the blame. Pretty please try again.

Welcome to Indigo Photography

After stalking a variety of other photographer's ABOUT pages, I know exactly what I'm supposed to say here.

Except I can't really tell you that I picked up my dad's camera when I was eight and decided that capturing memories was my life's ambition. In fact, I don't even think my dad had a camera for me to pick up. Of course, I'm just assuming based on the serious lack of photos of his daughter.

So. That's out.

I also can't tell you that I studied photography in college because I didn't. I was too consumed gaining life experience in the area of wrong relationships to be concerned with anything productive.

But here's what I can tell you: photography started as a hobby for me and it has slowly developed into a passion. Soon I started getting requests for photo shoots and I have loved the opportunity to create memories for people that aren't... uh... lame.

I do not have a studio and work on location in Rockford, IL and surrounding areas. I offer family and portrait sessions including: bridals, maternity, engagements, headshots, seniors, and children. If you should have any questions, or need a late night counselling session, please refer to the FAQs or use the contact form.

Child Abuse? Perhaps | Rockford IL Newborn Photographer

So, I’ve neglected this blog a bit. Part of that is cause it’s been winter and I’ve not been doing as many photo shoots. Part of it is cause I’ve started incorporating my photo shoots onto my other blog Blunt Delivery. Here you can read my full dissertation, including the scientific breakthrough that I made while doing on this photo shoot.

I’m off to eat one of the four boxes of ice cream crowding my freezer!

Me - I STILL love these pictures. Poor little dude. . .

A Day In The Life Of A Two Year Old | Rockford IL Child Photographer

Guys, okay. I realize it has been a wee bit since I updated this blog. I’d say I’ve been too busy, but I don’t think Wheel of Fortune counts as ‘busy.’ Depends on who you ask.

But I have been busy with assorted projects including the new magazine I’m working for, planning an upcoming charity fundraiser, and of course, keeping up with my other blogs. Truce? And besides, this technically isn’t even a blog, per se. It is just a place for me to post photo previews and what not. Forgiven?

Tough crowd.

My Favorite Super Easy Homemade Christmas Gift

You may not know this, but I’m a closet crafty person.

I have a room full of scrapbooking supplies that I never have time to use, and an entire office full of assorted epoxies, rubber stamp kits, ribbons and jars of random stuff one might use to “make things.” They just sit and collect dust, mostly.

But that’s not to say that every once in a while I don’t take a little time out to get my Martha Stuart side on. But you don’t even have to have a crafty bone in your body for this project.

My favorite thing is chocolate covered pretzels. My second favorite thing is the Mason jar. Combine the two of these and you have the perfect hostess gift, party favor, or whatever. These are SUPER CUTE and SUPER EASY to make.

Buy some pretzel rods and break them in half.  Melt a bowl of chocolate bark and white chocolate bark in the microwave. Be sure not to over heat – air on the side of caution. The secret to making the chocolate more smooth so it won’t clump up on you is to stir in a 1/2 tsp. of Crisco as you are melting.

Lay them on wax paper to dry. I let the chocolate dry completely and then I put some of the white chocolate in a ziploc and drizzle it over them. For the white ones, I usually sprinkle decorative dots or crushed peppermints on them while they are still drying.

chocolate-pretzel-rodsThen after they have all dried, arrange them in Mason jars (available at Walmart 12 for $6). You can also pick up cello bags at Target for $1, if you want an even cheaper route.

homemade-christmas-giftsI like to take some natural Jute and tie tags around the jars (I got all of this stuff at Hobby Lobby) then attach another piece of paper with a Christmas quote.

christmas-cookiesWho doesn’t tear up a little when thinking of the Grinch saying this?

christmas-giftsWho could resist that cuteness?

easy-homemade-christmas-giftsUm, how about no one.

My second favorite thing is to take regular old Christmas cookies, decorate them all funky, and put them in one of those holiday Chinese take out boxes lined with some tissue paper. I got mine at Target in the dollar spot, baby.

It’s better than tins. I mean, do they even sell those anymore? cute-christmas-wrapping

Me - Look at all the YUMMY! Do they taste as good as they look? Cuz' baybeeee, I'm droolin'! Say, am I on your Christmas list? *bats lashes* May be too late this year, but I'm thinking next year me n' my T might do these. Thanks for the idea - and the beautiful photos!

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of Year Except When You Live In The Midwest | Rockford IL Photographer

I mean, it’s a windchill of -20.

So, I just happened to be wandering around outside at 7 am on this blustery morning, where they are advising that no one leave the house except for an emergent situation.

Yea, I’m so sure.

It’s more like, the sun was shining so bright that it infiltrated even through my permanently closed blinds and curtains to the point where I had to get up. And when I did, I noticed it was kinda pretty outside. Then I realized I hadn’t written anything on my photography blog since October. So I made like my best homeless person and piled on the clothes and started driving to take some pictures.

Discovery #1: My rear window defrost doesn’t work.

Discovery #2: People don’t like it when you stop in the middle of a snowy road to take a picture.

Me - LOVE these shots! I'm glad you took them, because I was wondering what happened to your purdy pics. I love the snow, too. . . :)

Mr C - Great pictures, Blunt! It looks so similar to where I live except the land isn't as flat. I especially like the old abandoned house one, I always want to go in those houses so bad.

Ron - Incredible photos, Blunt! The one of the New York Candy Store is FLAWLESS! It looks like something off a movie set! And I love the abandoned house! X

youroneand only - hmmm my darling...how far did you drive during the winter advisory don't leave your fricken house?!

youroneandonly - did you or did you not break into that abandoned home? i know you have a thing for doing that...sooo weird! yet you still captivate me!

indigo - yes.. and yes.

Lisa - Beautiful photos! I particularly love the New York candy store pic. Gorgeous building.

bschooled - I'm so jealous right now, I can't even type. These are perfect.

This Is Why You Have Kids | Rockford Il Child Photographer

So you can dress them like pumpkins and sit them on the porch with all the other pumpkins and say things like, “Uh Oh, where’s Paul? All I see is pumpkins?”

Just in case you needed some reasons.

I took these pictures of my best friend’s boy, Paul. He’s turning two next month. I think taking pictures of an almost-two-year-old might be harder than taking them of an actual two-year-old. Not recommended.

This is part 1 of the pictures. I didn’t have time to edit them today, but I’m avoiding getting ready for the doctor so I decided to try.

janelle hamberg - Will I ever be beautiful enough to make your billboard of hot friends? OO better yet...hot mommy friends?!!! JK! Now that could be a fun new section of pics! Kinda like runway moms except not really.

Jes - Yup. That's it, exactly! You've found out the secret. . . I love this set. The bright orange, the focus, the subject. Great work!

Happy Halloween From The Cats | Rockford Il Photographer

I packed up the imaginary children and headed out to the wilderness last week to visit my BFF. We wanted to get some pictures of her two year old before her belly bursts and she has another baby next week. I’ll be posting those soon. In between takes, I chit-chatted with the cats – one of which she inherited from me.

However, the third cat couldn’t make it in this post. She was sequestered to the screen-in porch cus she had ringworm.

This ridiculous, unfortunate creature below used to be mine. His name is Chewy [short for Chewbaca] and he was adopted by my best friend when I moved. He has hairball issues so he doesn’t just get the lion cut because it’s the trend.  He throws up alot and likes to stare at the kitchen sink for hours, hoping to see just one drop of water.

I don’t know where I went wrong.

That very evening she called begging for me to take him back.

I’m pretty sure in this picture he’s wondering, “What’s the point of it all anyway?”

Flea Market Vases + Fake Flowers = Vintage Centerpiece | Rockford Il Photographer

Just don’t tell me I can’t make a centerpiece out of flea market medicine bottles and random fake flowers. Because guess what? I will. And it will be cute.

Jes - It actually is rather lovely. I'm surprised by that. . . Yay, you! Now sell it on Etsy for $500 ;)

Senior Pictures That Don’t Suck | Rockford Il Senior Portrait Photographer

Ah, to be a senior in high school again…

It was my pleasure to hang out with Mallory, and her supercool mom, and her even super-cooler dog, Payton. If there was ever a dog that could make me relinquish my hatred for dogs forever – it would be this guy.

Mallory is editor of her school yearbook. So was I. I think this means something.

While I’m figuring that out, here’s a preview of her session…

janelle hamberg - So, I know this girl. I grew up knowing her in my family. I believe my aunt Cindy is also her aunt. I think her name is Mallory and I cannot remember her last name (funny since I have known of her for so many years). She is so sweet in these pics!

youroneand only - i want the dog!!!
