{I photographed a wedding last Friday. My very first wedding. Ever.} So last fall I took some engagement photos for my friends Lisa & Casey.
... And now I need you to think of the worst thing possible that could ever happen in life.
You are correct if you thought "They asked you to photograph the wedding." I don't photograph weddings. In fact, historically, I don't even really like being around weddings. I could list the reasons, but there are too many and this blog is technically about photos and not my innermost fears and annoyances. Meh. The main reason I don't do weddings is because I don't like pressure. I don't like being responsible for someone's most important day. I am clumsy yet perfectionistic and I never like getting myself into something when I'm not prepared.
The conversation went a little bit like this:
Them: We'd like you to photograph our wedding.
Me: I don't do that.
Them: We know, but we think you'll be great.
Me: But, you don't understand. I have never taken any photos of any weddings ever.
Them: We're okay with being the first.
Me: But, I cannot guarantee your photos won't be terrible. Or even THAT there will be photos. In fact, yes, actually they probably will be terrible.
Welp. Six months later and a lot of uncontrollable panicking and watching My Big Fat Gypsy American Wedding, here we are. I always did have a difficult time saying no to cute couples that are all happy and stuff. Or, just about anyone, really. And I must say that I couldn't have done it without my co-photographer, Cole, who I pretty much didn't give a choice in helping me. I might have told him there was a good chance I'd have an anxiety attack during the ceremony and then wouldn't he feel bad knowing they would have no wedding pictures because he refused to help me.
He did the right thing. After sorting through about 4,000 pictures... here are a few of my favorites.
CONGRATS Lisa and Casey! And you better not get married again because the answer is NO!
